Kununurra and the East Kimberley – A Gateway to the last Frontier
Kimberleyland is located in Kununurra, in North Western Australia, about 48 km from the Northern Territory border.
This is the Gateway to the Kimberley and an area you will need to allow at least a week to explore.
The East Kimberley Region is an adventure playground with many famous icons:
- Bungle Bungles
- Barramundi
- Ord River
- Lake Argyle
- Mitchell Plateau and Falls
- Wyndham / the Bastion
- Ivanhoe Crossing
- Kalumburu
- Argyle Diamond Mine
- The famous diamond display at Kimberley Fine Diamonds
- Hidden Valley Mirima National Park
- ‘Kelly’s Knob’ scenic lookout
- Faraway Bay
All these can be explored by yourself or on a tour, which we can organise for you.
Kimberleyland is situated only a 20-minute walk from the centre of town. The walk into town is well lit and leads to some great places for dinner and lunch, entertainment, shopping and business.
Effective quarantine is vital to maintaining the area’s reputation as a low pest, low chemical agricultural producer. Visitors to Kununurra, coming up from the south, may not realize that we don’t have the Mediterranean fruit fly in the Ord River district. Because of this freedom, Kununurra’s melons and mangoes can be sent around Australia without treatment.
