Driving over Ivanhoe Crossing is a true Kununurra rite of passage. Once the main route to Port Wyndham, it’s now a favourite 4WD and fishing spot. When the crossing is closed in the dry season, locals head to the Spillway instead, where fast-flowing water and bream make for an adventurous alternative.

There aren't many activities that qualify as 'unmissable'. This is one of them. Beware crocodile and even bull sharks, no visit to Kununurra is complete without a visit to Ivanhoe Crossing.

View the relocated Durack Homestead from Argyle Downs Station. When the Lake Argyle Dam (locally known as 'Top Dam') was built the original Homestead was relocated, brick by brick to the current location. Lake Argyle filled up much faster than originally anticipated but thankfully many parts of the Homestead were salvaged. 

When Lake Argyle was at it lowest ~25% capacity towards to the end of 2020 it was possible to see the top posts of the original windmills poking out of the water. 

There are two viewing points at Kelly's Knob. Always drive right up to the top car park. Option 1 is the easiest, turn right from the carpark and the view is right over the rocks. Option 2 is a climb up to the very top. If you are fit, it should take you a short but intense 10 minute walk up. If you're not super fit, take breaks while climbing up, the view gets better and better as you go. To access Option 2, you can follow the signs but essentially follow the bitumen road which is blocked off for cars (but not pedestrians) and turn right when you get to a locked fence. 

Local produce meets kithcen - Ivanhoe Farms Cafe is Sue's creation. Think local, fresh produce being plated up, home-style tasty dishes. Sue has a German backgrounds which means the cakes and tortes are exquisite. Sometimes you can even buy melons and homemade icecream. 

Mirima National Park is right on the edge of the Kununurra township - it's quite remarkable that this beautiful and ancient rock valley is so close and accessible. Also known as Hidden Valley, this park has a number of walking trail options, some as short as 10 minutes with the longest around an hour long. With ancient boab trees that are hundreds of years old, wet season waterfalls and creeks and if you have a keen eye you may even see Aboriginal Rock Art, petroglyphs and Mortar & Pestles.

The Kununurra Markets operate every Saturday during the Dry Season (except on the day of the Ag Show). They operate from 8am until midday from Whitegum Park We recommend you get there early for the cooler weather and first pick! 

While the local Argyle Diamond Mine did stop production in 2020, bringing a halt to 90% of the worlds pink diamond supply, these diamonds are still available to view (and buy) at Kimberley Fine Diamonds, Kununurra - with one of Australia's largest collections. 

Not only can you get a cocktail, sundowner drinks, snack and meals - you may even get a visit from Luigi the Croc. Hint for families - bring along some spare bread to feed the fish from the restaurant deck and watch the action! 

Buy a Day Pass at Discovery Lake Argyle and experience what's been voted as Australia's Best Infinity Pool. A Day Pass allows you to utilise the BBQ's and Pool Facilities. In the cooler months the water is quite fresh and the pool is very popular. During the Wet Season, it's much quieter and is a prime spot to float watching tropical clouds and distant lightning storms. 

Purnululu National Park, home of the iconic Bungle Bungles, is a must-see Kimberley highlight. Allow five hours from Kununurra and refuel at Warmun before heading in. With deep chasms, towering gorges and world-famous beehive formations, it’s best explored over at least two nights. Speak with our team about camping or tour options.

A wonderful, authentic experience for anyone interested in Kangaroos and Wallabies. Or any child, they absolutely love this tour. You'll be picked up from your accommodation for this 3 hour sunset dinner cruise on Lake Kununurra aboard the MV Jabiru. This all-inclusive experience includes nibbles, wild-caught salt water Barramundi or Threadfin Salmon, steak, salads and dessert. This long established river cruise is Australia's longest daily river cruise. This section of river is so diverse - from the Lake Argyle Dam wall, to waterfalls (if you;re lucky and time it well), a huge variety of river gorges, water birds and incredible views. Lake Kununurra, in comparison to Lake Argyle, is a more diverse waterway. The scenery changes dramatically in the 55km long section of River. Do it your own way and hire a Pontoon Boat on Lake Argyle. Each boat is equipped with Pool Noodles and a BBQ. Details of cost, requirements and that sort of thing can be found on the Lake Argyle Cruises Website. 

This one is tricky to give directions on, both driving and climbing. There's no signage from the road in and the directions up the rock is limited to a yellow arrow on a rock. This isn't a typical gazetted drive/hike. It requires a sense of adventure, a good sense of direction and an open minded attitude to rogue roads and hikes. 

We recommend sunrise because the daylight makes the hike easier as you go. There's nothing worse than the looming feeling of getting lost as daylight fades. Allow yourself approx 25 minutes to hike to the top. 

The track in is 4WD only and sandy in parts, previous visitors have said google maps helped them with the drive in. The turn off is approx 400m after the pistol club, on the right. It's approx 600m down that road to the carpark (stay right when it forks) 

Some people use the 'All Trails' app to help navigate the hike. 

The views from the top are sweeping 360 degree breathtaking views. For those that truly love hiking, it's well worth it.
